Department of Music Lecture: Mark Evan Bonds, Cary C. Boshamer Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill

Mark Evan Bonds is the Cary C. Boshamer Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he has taught since 1992. A former editor of Beethoven Forum, he has written widely on music of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, particularly the intersections of music and philosophy. His most recent book is Absolute Music: The History of an Idea (Oxford, 2014). In 2015-16 he was a Member of the School of Historical Studies at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, and in 2016-17 he was a Fellow of the Lise-Meitner-Programm in Vienna. He is currently at work on a new book entitled Music as Autobiography: Perceptions of Self-Expression Since Beethoven.
