John Yigiang Sun, guest piano recital

John Yigiang Sun began studying piano at age five. He entered the Shanghai Music High School in 1954 and subsequently studied the piano with professor Cui Zhen Li at the Shanghai Music Conservatory between 1961 and 1966. After graduation he joined the Central Philharmonic Orchestra in Beijing as piano soloist until 1980. After this, Sun came to the states and completed a Masters degree in Piano Performance with Seth Carlin at Washington University.

Sun has given numerous recitals in both the United States and China. In 2006 Sun accepted invitations from both the Shanghai Normal University and The Shanghai Music Conservatory to join their faculties. Since then he has taught students who have gone on to pursue advanced degrees at schools such as the New England Music Conservatory, Eastman Music School, Indiana University in Bloomington, The San Francisco Music Conservatory as well as conservatories in Europe. He has performed as soloist with many orchestras in China such as the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the Tianjing Symphony Orchestra and the Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra. He is now Piano Professor in the Music Conservatory of Sias University in Henan Province.
