Christopher Douthitt is a composer and scholar whose work explores how technology can be used to create new contexts for song and songlike expression.
Christopher Douthitt’s music is grounded in collaboration, language, and technology. As a composer, Douthitt designs interactive environments for mixed electroacoustic groups, writes words and music for voices, and composes concert pieces for traditional acoustic ensembles. As a scholar, he focuses on developing new digital instruments and investigating various boundary states of song experience.
Douthitt directed the Princeton Laptop Orchestra (PLOrk) for the 2020-21 season. He co-directed Underwolf Records from 2017-2020. He has presented his work at the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS), the Society for Music Theory (SMT), the Society for Music Perception and Cognition (SMPC), the Liminal Sound Series, and the Carlsbad Music Festival. An avid performer and collaborator, Douthitt fronts the bands the Anaglyphs (in New Jersey) and the Glyphs (in Texas).
Originally from Spokane, Washington, Douthitt studied music composition at Princeton University, electronic music and improvisation at Mills College, and music theory at Northwestern University.
