Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, St. Louis District

The purpose of the Metropolitan Opera’s National Council Auditions is to discover exceptional young talent and provide a venue for young opera singers across North America at all levels of development to be heard by representatives of the Metropolitan Opera and to assist those with the greatest potential for operatic careers.

Auditions take place in 42 districts around the country during the fall and winter.  Approximately 1200 singers take part in these auditions.  The St. Louis District typically hosts up to 35 singers.  Each participating singer is expected to prepare five arias, two of which they will perform at the audition- one of their choosing and one chosen by the judges.  Typically there are three District winners who go on to compete in the regional competition with the hope of continuing to the national level in New York.

The St. Louis District auditions will take place at the 560 Music Center at Washington University on Saturday, January 18, 2020 starting at 10am and ending at approximately 4pm.  The auditions are free and open to the public.
