Biography

Sofia La Rosa, born and raised in Tacoma, Washington, began her study of music at age 5 as a violinist and pianist, later beginning classical voice at 16. Sofia now attends Washington University in St. Louis, where she is pursuing a dual degree in Vocal Performance and Political Science. Her interest in opera began in middle school after hearing Gregorian chants and latin hymns performed at her home church. This developed into a love and appreciation for the romantic period, worship music, and connecting her audience to the passion expressed by a composer in their work. Sofia enjoys coloratura passages, which feature rapid ornamentation through agile leaps and trills, as they remind her of similar qualities in those same latin hymns that originally inspired her love for opera.
