Biography:
Henry Kessler is a senior at Washington University in St. Louis, double majoring in Economics and Psychological & Brain Sciences, with a minor in Music. Originally from Boston, Henry’s musical career began at age 5 with classical piano lessons, which he credits for developing his foundational musicianship and sparking a lifelong appreciation for classical music. Henry first picked up the viola in fourth grade, drawn to its rich timbre and balance between the violin and cello. With a new instrument in the fold, his passion for music deepened through middle and high school, where he performed with school and community orchestras, including Youth Symphony at New England Conservatory. Thirteen years later, the viola remains a meaningful and enduring part of his life. At WashU, Henry has been a dedicated member of the Washington University Symphony Orchestra (WUSO), most recently serving as principal violist in his senior year. Beyond Orchestra, he has explored a wide solo repertoire through weekly lessons, and is excited to present a program that spans all of the major musical periods, featuring works by some of his favorite composers. Henry would like to thank his teacher, Amy Greenhalgh, for her mentorship and encouragement, and his friends and family for their ongoing support.
