Classical Theory II

MUSIC 122C

A review of diatonic harmony and followed by a study of chromatic harmony and issues of tonality and form. Topics include tonicization and modulation, chromatic voice-leading, modal mixture, altered and extended chords, modulation to foreign keys, and elaboration of diatonic sequences. Work involves written and class-related exercises, analysis of 18th and 19th-century works, and model composition. Students who register for Music 122C are required to register for one of the subsections. PREREQ: Music 121C.
