Jane Jennings, soprano

Jane Jennings, a native of St. Charles, Missouri, has received tremendous acclaim for her operatic portrayals ranging from Mozart’s delicate leading ladies to the sympathetic heroines in operas by Puccini and Verdi.  She has performed leading roles in companies throughout the United States and abroad.  Some of these include Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with the Dallas Opera and with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Xalapa (Mexico); Violetta in La Traviata and Mimi in La Bohème with Connecticut Opera; Fiordiligi in Cosí fan tutte with Arizona Opera and with El Paso Opera; Donna Anna in Don Giovanni and the Governess in Turn of the Screw with Opera Omaha; the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro with Pittsburgh Opera and Micaela in Carmen with New York City Opera and the Teatro di Bellini (Sicily).

An active concert artist, she has sung with the Dallas Symphony, Houston Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Colorado Symphony, North Carolina Symphony, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Xalapa and the Bilbao Symphony.  Conductors she has collaborated with include Marin Alsop, Claus Peter Flor, Graeme Jenkins, Carlos Miguel Prieto, Cal Stewart Kellogg, Grant Llewellyn, Joel Revzen, Andreas Delfs, Thomas Dausgaard and Mark Russell Smith.

A gifted recitalist, Miss Jennings was presented in her New York recital debut by Marilyn Horne on her “On Wings of Song” recital series.  An invitation soon followed to appear on the Annual Marilyn Horne Foundation Gala Concert in New York.  She received critical acclaim for her appearance on this special program.  Citing her performance of Barber’s “Hermit Songs”, the New York Magazine confirmed that “Jane Jennings caught its feelings of intimacy and wonder perfectly.”  She has also appeared with Steven Blier and the New York Festival of Song at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, at the Danny Kaye Theater at New York’s Hunter College, and in Washington, DC.  The Washington Post critic wrote “Soprano Jane Jennings has a full-bodied tone, expertly controlled, and an unusual mastery of words.”  She was invited to sing in recital at the opening gala of the Blanche Touhill Performing Arts Center and has also appeared in a chamber concert of Mahler songs as part of the Bard Festival.

Miss Jennings can be heard on the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony recording of the Brahms Requiem conducted by Joel Revzen, and as Europa on the Telarc recording of Richard Strauss’s opera Die Liebe der Danae.  The opera was recorded live at Lincoln Center with conductor Leon Botstein leading the American Symphony Orchestra.

Gail Hintz, piano, holds a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from Webster College, a master’s degree in vocal accompanying and coaching from the University of Illinois, and also spent a year in Paris studying piano at the École Normale de Musique.  She then worked as a vocal coach/accompanist in New York City, and served as music director/pianist for various regional opera and musical theatre companies and tours.  Gail has lived in St. Louis for many years, where she currently runs a freelance coaching studio, accompanies the Saint Louis Symphony Chorus, and plays for the Metropolitan Opera district and regional auditions.  Gail, her husband Chris, and their two sons live in Ballwin.
