PhD candidate in Musicology Daniel Fister was awarded the Lise Waxer Student Paper Prize from the Popular Music Section of the Society for Ethnomusicology for his paper “Whiteness as Vocal Aesthetics: An Examination of Judging Practices within Collegiate A Cappella Competitions” at the 2019 annual meeting. It was delayed a year in being awarded due to COVID-19. The prize was created to recognize the most distinguished student paper in the ethnomusicology of popular music presented at the SEM annual meeting.
